Boat Winterization and Storage
Before your boat is put away for the winter, it needs to be prepared for semi-annual storage to protect against corrosion and equipment damage caused by freezing temperatures. This preparation is widely known to boaters as "winterization." Mechanically speaking, a boat which has been well-winterized can fare quite well even when stored outside for one whole Manitoba winter.
At Watertown, in Lac du Bonnet, we can help with winterizing in a couple of different ways. You can have your Mercury/MerCruiser/Volvo Penta powered boat winterized by a certified mechanic in our service shop. Or, if you're among those who do their own winterizing, you can find the necessary Quicksilver products such as storage seal, gear oil, etc. In our accessories store, we sell Mercury's legendary Quicksilver product line to assist in getting the job done right. Once your boat is winterized, we can help with storage options.
Our shop has many years of experience with winterizing and tailor this service to the needs of each boat and owner. For example, a MerCruiser inboard has different winterizing requirements than an Optimax outboard or a small boat with a pull-start. One service customer may have already changed gear oil and therefore decline this part of the winterization service, while another would prefer it to be changed by our shop. Whatever the requirements, we look forward to being your choice for custom winterization services.
Winterize before it freezes. Winterize, even for warm storage, to protect against corrosion.
